These instructions pertain
to Replay Radio version 5. Click HERE if
you need version 6 instructions.
Audio recordings
that result in files containing no audio or very distorted audio
are usually caused by an improper sound card setting or incorrect
audio recording source selection in Replay Radio. The steps below
will help you to troubleshoot the issue and determine your appropriate
settings. Be sure to also review the other tips in the Recording
FAQ.
Note: Owners of Realtek
HD audio cards, please click
here for instructions that are specific to your sound card.
A. Check your selected sound card:
- Open Replay Radio - make sure that all audio players are closed
first.
- Click the Settings button, then the Sound
Mixer tab.
- Please note the name of the Sound Card Driver that
Replay Radio has selected to use.
- Click the Setup Windows Sound Mixer button.
This will open your Windows sounds/audio devices properties.
- Click the Audio tab. Note the default devices
for sound playback and sound recording. They should match the name
of the driver in Replay Radio's settings (from step 3). If they
do not match, change the driver in Replay Radio's settings to match
the driver name you see in the windows settings. You can now close
all settings windows. If the driver name is "Realtek HD
Audio, please click HERE for instructions.
B. Test the audio recording method:
- Open Replay Radio - make sure that all audio players are closed
first.
- Play some audio - make sure you can hear it at a comfortable
level.
- Click Quick Record: name it test1,
set to 3
minutes and MP3-FM or CD quality.
- Click the Test button directly to the right
of the Recording Source drop-down box to test your available
audio sources. When the test is finished a recommended source
will be provided.
- Select the Recording Source that matches
the recommended source from the test you just performed. It will
usually be one of these: Stereo Mix, What
U Hear, WAV Out, WAV Out Mix, or
something similar. Click OK.
- Replay Radio will now record the audio that you are playing.
It will stop recording in 3 minutes.
- After the recording ends,
stop any audio that is playing and open the recorded test1.mp3 file.
To find this file, just click on the View Recordings button
in Replay Radio then View All to find test1.
Highlight it
and click Play.
- If the recorded file can be heard and plays undistorted,
you have selected the proper source for a
Quick Record and all scheduled recordings.
Be sure to check the options for
all of your scheduled shows to make sure that the recording
source is set to the same
source that you used during this test. If your test file recorded
successfully, you do not need to proceed through
the remaining steps on this page.
- If the recorded test file can not be heard or
is greatly distorted, you will need to proceed to the next steps
below.
C. Install the enhanced sound card driver:
- If the test1 file recorded above does not contain any audio,
install the enhanced sound card driver as follows:

- Fully exit Replay Radio.
- Run the driver install making sure that the driver selects to
install in to your Replay Radio 5 program files folder.
- Re-boot your computer.
D. Test the enhanced sound card driver:
Now that the
driver is installed, let's perform another recording test but
this time select the enhanced sound card driver as
your recording source :
- Open
Replay Radio - make sure that all audio players are
closed first.
- Play some audio - make sure you can hear it at a comfortable
level.
- Click Quick Record: name it test2,
set to 3
minutes, and MP3-FM or CD quality,
and ENHANCED
SOUND CARD DRIVER as your recording method.
click OK.
- After the recording ends, stop any audio that is playing and
open the recorded test2 file. Does the file contain audio?
- If successful,
ENHANCED SOUND CARD DRIVER is your correct recording
source for a Quick Record or scheduled recording methods.
